Tonsillectomy Blog Day 2
DAY 2:
I woke up feeling rather well; much better than expected. I took my morning meds including my pain killers, amoxicillin, and steroid. I also iced my neck and had some ice chips to stay ahead of the pain. Unlike yesterday I was able to handle the ice cold fluids this morning. I then had a protein shake and it went down much easier than the night before.
During the morning I was very stuffed and tried to clear my nose by blowing it and using the saline solution a lot. I even put some on a the end of a q-tip to make sure I covered the entire nasal passage to keep it moist. Quite a lot of blood was coming out and I even had about a 10 minute nose bleed.
I was still hungry a couple of hours later and decided to cook scrambled eggs and oatmeal. I struggled eating the eggs as they would get caught in my throat but the oatmeal went down very smoothly. Next time I make eggs I am going to try them poached or over easy. I watched some TV and did some research on masters degrees and some other things I have been meaning to look up.
Around noon I noticed I had quite a bit of bleeding in the back of my throat and began to panic. I called the doctor immediately as this can be very dangerous and went in to see him. I told him the blood appeared to be coming from my throat where the uvula would have hung. After seeing him he assured me it was blood running down my throat from my nose and was not that big of a deal. Upon arriving home I felt much better again.
For lunch, I had another protein shake and some jello. I also continued to take my meds as prescribed and ice my neck. I am still in awe over what the humidifier is doing to keep my mouth dry. Being as I had my septum straightened I am struggling to breath through my nose. So, I expected a dry mouth from being a mouth breather for a while. However, this humidifier paired with the ice packs on my neck about every 5 hours is working wonderfully. I have also been mixing up the amount of Hycet I have been taking depending on my pain level, anywhere between 5ml and 15 ml.
Being as I was feeling so well, I decided for dinner I would get a little bold and decided to cook some Knorr Creamy Chicken Noodle. I added an extra 1/2 cup of water to the recipe to overcook them and let them sit for about an hour to cool before eating them. They surprisingly went down very smoothly and I was pleased to have some solid food in my system.
As I played down I was surprisingly exhausted and fell asleep rather quick. This may have been cause I stayed up until midnight to take my Hycet before falling asleep. I took about 15 ml hoping to sleep through the night and skip the 4am prescription. However, this did not work as planned. I still did sleep till about 6am, much better than the night before.
